Mini Library to Open!

Thanks to the movers and volunteers who moved the boxes of books from the library building into our cafe, where we are setting up a mini-library to serve members during the renovations of the main building. The mini-library will have about 4,000 books and opens this Saturday - come visit and check out a book. Saturday Story Time continues in a lovely outdoor spot next door at the British Club.  Free for members, 100 baht for non-members. Join us at 10:30 on Saturday!  Entry is through the Library car park with no parking at the British Club.  Food and drink coupons are available.

NHL Book Club – Nadine Gordimer

This month we will discuss books by Nadine Gordimer, South African writer, political activist and recipient of the 1991 Nobel Prize in Literature. Gordimer's writing dealt with moral and racial issues, particularly apartheid in South Africa. The book club will meet at about 10 am on the last Thursday of each month, in the mini-library in the garden cafe, if there is enough space, or at the British Club cafe next door.

NHL Book Club – The Sympathizer by Viet Thanh Nguyen

For April, the book club will discuss The Sympathizer - the 2015 debut novel by Vietnamese American professor Viet Thanh Nguyen. The novel tells the story of the South Vietnamese Government in 1975 and subsequent events in American exile in Los Angeles, through the eyes of a half-Vietnamese, half-French undercover communist agent. The Sympathizer won the 2016 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction. The book club will meet at about 10 am on the last Thursday of each month, in the mini-library…

The library is closed for renovation, but our book club continues this month with a discussion of works by Joyce Carol Oates.     An American writer, Oates published her first book in 1963 and has since published over 40 novels, as well as plays, novellas, short stories, poetry, and nonfiction.
