Our Children’s Corner is a cosy and inviting space for our young members to make themselves comfortable on a cushion or sit at a small table, where they can enjoy their favourite stories.
Children of all ages can explore our extensive collection of picture, fiction and non-fiction books. There is also a comprehensive section for Young Adults.
Saturday Story Time
Every Saturday morning is set-aside for children, with our popular Children’s Story Time sessions taking place at 10:30am.
Enthusiastic volunteer readers engage our young listeners with several books, usually chosen to follow a particular theme each week. Our stories are followed by an imaginative and artistic craft activity that relates to the book theme.
Where possible, we try to split the children into under- and over-5’s, in order to provide age appropriate stories. Our audience is comprised of native English speakers and children who are learning English. Saturday mornings are a great opportunity to listen, practice and absorb English in a fun and non-threatening environment, where children can play with new friends every week.
Saturday Story Time is free for members, 100 baht per child for non-members.
Throughout the year, we offer a number of exciting special events which are very popular and well-known throughout Bangkok. Past events have included:
Fire-fighter’s Day, with a real fire truck and fire fighting demonstration
Chinese New Year, featuring acrobatic lion dance performances
Art Workshops, our exhibited artists often conduct workshops for our young members
Halloween, a much loved event for not only the children, but also our staff and volunteers!
Christmas Celebrations, including a special visit from Santa and carols led by the Bangkok Music Society :
A visit to the Neilson Hays Library can be a wonderful opportunity to explore the building’s architectural features, to take a look back to 100 years ago when Bangkok was a much different place, and to learn about libraries and their important role in society.Neilson Hays Library welcomes school visits and will tailor a short programme appropriate to the age and needs of the school group. A story and tour is included. Additional options may include craft, themed activities, and refreshments.

Each year, Neilson Hays Library partners with schools in Bangkok to organise fun and rewarding Readathon events.
The Readathon’s goal is to help children become better readers and better learners by nurturing a joy of reading, while at the same time raising funds for a worthwhile cause.
This activity promotes literacy among students, helps them to become community-minded, is a fun way to encourage reading, and introduces them to new genres of books and authors.
Before reading, students approach family members and friends as sponsors to pledge a certain amount of money per book read. They then spend several weeks reading and documenting every book that was read before collecting the sponsorship money.
Our Readathon programs will vary slightly depending on the requirements of each school – we are more than happy to tailor a program for your school.
